Upcoming Shows
I apologize for being so quiet lately, things have been quite hectic but I have a bunch of things I’m excited to share soon! For now though, I’ll be set up at two upcoming shows: this Sunday I’ll be at the Luck of the Irish Craft & Vendor Market at the Shady Nook Rec Centre in Pembroke, Ontario, and on April 13 I’ll be at the One Hop Easter Shop at the Germania Club in Pembroke, Ontario. This Sunday’s show will also be the last time I’ll have my winter knits on hand until the fall, AND they’ll be on sale! Don’t worry if you can’t make it to these, I’ll be at more markets later in the season, so watch for more announcements!
Sustainability
Sustainability has become quite a buzzword lately, but it’s such an important topic. As an individual, trying to make better choices for the planet has become one of the guiding principles in my day-to-day life. It’s important to stress that most environmental harm comes from major global corporations, not individuals just going about their normal lives, but we can still take small steps to reduce our own impact and improve the areas where we live. As an artist and business owner, it’s even more important to consider where and how I source my materials and products, so that I can make a positive impact on the world.
Here are some of the ways I try to be more sustainable in my business:
I reuse and repurpose materials whenever I can - fabric from worn out clothing, yarn from old sweaters, imagery from magazines and books
I get many of my supplies second hand, from thrift stores or gifted from friends and family
I reuse shipping and packing materials whenever possible, and try to avoid plastic if I’m able to
I try to shop local as much as possible, or if I have to purchase online, I try to buy in bulk to lessen how often I have to reorder
I try to use what I have before purchasing something new
Small actions can still have an impact, and so I am building my business in a way that allows me to create things that I love while also lessening my impact on the environment. I’m always looking for new ways I can be more sustainable, so I would love any tips or ideas you might have. Comment, email, or DM me and we can chat!
Happy New Year!
Welcome to 2025! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season! New Years is when many people make resolutions for the coming year, but I realized awhile back that that style of goal setting just doesn’t work for me. Instead, I try to focus on a larger theme for how I would like my year to go, and find ways to work towards that. This year, I’ve realized that while I have many amazing ideas and great intentions, my follow-through could use some work, so that’s what I’m going to be focusing on - consciously deciding what I actually need and want to do, planning it out, and then actually doing it. Of course, if I find that once I start it’s not what I thought it would be, then I will stop and let go of it so I can move on to something else. I hope that, by harnessing intentional planning and action, I can clean up my to do list, reduce mental (and physical!) clutter, and achieve some of the big goals that I haven’t yet taken action on.
A huge part of this is my shop and website as a whole. I spent most of 2024 thinking and brainstorming ideas, but only near the end of the year did I start putting effort into making real plans and taking action. With the new year comes renewed energy, and I’ll be working through the next few months to bring my shop online and flesh out my website to include my portfolios and writing. In addition, I’ll be doing some content creation that should tie in nicely with my creative work.
I am honestly so excited to really get going, and as my family starts ramping back up to normal life, I’ll be taking full advantage of the quiet to get to work building my dream life! Make sure to follow me on your social media platforms of choice, so you can see what I’m creating and stay up to date on all of my projects!
